Krabi
The last two weeks, I don't even know where to begin... We went to Ton Sai, which is the dirty climbers beach and found a rustic little bungalow to stay in. By rustic, I mean it has a bed and a mosquito net because the walls are something called airy, which means they are not really walls at all, but palm fronds woven together so you can't see in. The "airy" walls aren't really what I would call a wall. The climbing was on amazing limestone. It is a 300 million year old reef that was bigger than the Great Barrier, and there are all sorts of cool formations to climb on. We also went snorkeling and kayaking. We met some interesting people from all around the world and close to home. We went out and saw some of the islands and it poured down raining while we were out there. All we could do was huddle in the boat and drink some beer to stay warm. Breakfast was generally eaten at a place called the Pyramid and served to us by a friendly guy named Chai (and he made some wicked good chai tea). That's the picture of the hammocks and little tables. The sad thing is that in a few months, Chai is getting kicked out so that a big resort can be built there. Apparently Ton Sai was a deserted beach six years ago. Now it is full of bungalows, bars, restaurants and climbing guides. Every night on the beach there is a party with fire dancers and fireworks. Thailand is becoming extrememly touristy very quickly. It's a little sad when people like Chia are kicked out on their bums and left to find a new job. But the climbing was great and so were the people we met. We didn't want to leave Ton Sai ever, the plan was to build a treehouse and become a badass climber, but we eventually realized it was a flawed plan. So we did leave and spent way too long on buses going north to Chiang Mai.
